12:30 GMT+4 – Land Borders Open, Indoor Food Facilities Allowed on Weekends Starting June 1

Georgia opens its land borders starting June 1. Visitors will have to present either proof of full vaccination and a negative PCR test result conducted in the last 72 hours, or two negative PCR test results, conducted 72 hours before and after entering. Food facilities will be allowed to serve customers indoors on weekends starting June 1 as well, as per the Inter-Agency Council’s decision.

Citizens and residents of Canada, Japan, Kuwait, China, South Korea, Moldova, and Oman are now allowed to enter Georgia.

Citizens and residents of EU states, the U.S., Israel, Switzerland, Norway, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan were already allowed to enter.

16:00 GMT+4 – German Embassy Grants Medical Equipment to Hospitals in Abkhazia

The German Embassy in Tbilisi stated today about granting the medical facilities in Sokhumi and Gudauta, located in occupied Abkhazia, EUR 46,000-worth equipment to help fight against the COVID-19 virus. The equipment includes a generator, oxygen concentrators, UV lamps, pulse oximeters, rapid tests, protective masks, and disinfectants. “The virus is spreading across the world regardless of borders. The population in Abkhazia is also very much affected by the pandemic,” the Embassy said, adding that the goal was to improve the possibilities for diagnosis, treatment, and protection of the medical staff there.

16:00 GMT+4 – AstraZeneca to Be Available for Citizens 45 and Older

Georgian health authorities announced today that citizens aged 45 and over will be able to be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine. Those wishing to register will be able to do so starting tomorrow.

The country began COVID vaccination on March 15 after 43,200 doses of the British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccine arrived on March 13. Up until today’s announcement, AstraZeneca shots were exclusively available to medical personnel and those 55 or older.

08:00 GMT+4 – Georgia Receives 43,000 More Doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford

A second batch of 43,000 more jabs of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine was delivered to Georgia this morning via COVAX, the UN-backed COVID vaccine sharing scheme. According to NCDC Head Amiran Gamkrelidze the shots will be used as second doses for those already vaccinated with the British-Swedish vaccine. Registration for the second shots opened yesterday evening and will be administered starting from May 10.

The country began COVID vaccination on March 15 after 43,200 doses of the British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccine arrived on March 13, while 29,250 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech followed on March 25 – both only available to medical personnel and citizens over 55. The Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine is the only one to be administered in all age groups over 18 thus far.

Tbilisi also received a batch of 100,000 Sinovac (CoronaVac) COVID-19 vaccines from China as humanitarian aid recently on April 30, but the registration for Sinovac shots has not opened yet.

With a total of 13,660 recoveries and 222 fatalities reported in the occupied region since the onset of the virus, the number of active cases to date stands at 820.

Over the weekend, Kremlin-backed South Ossetian authorities reported 8 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the occupied region’s total confirmed cases to 3,409. 6 more patients have recovered, taking the number of recoveries to 3,080.

11:30 GMT+4 – 47,949 Persons Vaccinated

According to the Georgian health authorities, a total of 47,949 persons have received at least a single dose of coronavirus vaccine since Georgia initiated vaccine rollout on March 15. Meanwhile, 7,009 persons have been fully vaccinated.

According to the authorities, out of 2,171 new cases of the virus, 1,359 were confirmed in Tbilisi, the capital city, 135 in Adjara, 202 – Imereti, 83 – Kvemo Kartli, 82 – Shida Kartli, 48 – Guria, 118 – Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, 54 – Kakheti, 70 – Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 13 – Samtskhe-Javakheti, 7 – Racha-Lechkhumi – Kvemo Svaneti.

11:00 GMT+4 – 2,171 New Cases, 1,074 Recoveries, 24 More Fatalities

Georgian authorities have confirmed 2,171 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the total confirmed cases to 315,913. In the meantime, 1,074 patients have recovered, taking the number of overall recoveries to 296,532. The number of COVID-related fatalities rose by 24 to 4,207. The number of active cases stands at 15,148. 

The test positivity rate for today stands at 7.85%, the 14-day rate is at 5.33% while the rate for the past week stands at 6.27%.

22:00 GMT+4 – 49 New Cases, 10 More Recoveries Reported in Abkhazia

Moscow-backed authorities in Abkhazia reported 49 new cases of COVID-19, taking the tally of the total confirmed cases in the region to 14,666. 10 more patients have recovered, bringing the number of recoveries to 13,660. With 222 COVID-related fatalities recorded since the onset of the virus, the number of active cases to date stands at 784.

17:40 – Sputnik V Vaccine Delivered to Tskhinvali Region, Abkhazia

Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali/South Ossetia regions on April 30 received their first batches of Russian-made Sputnik V (Gam-COVID-Vac) vaccine against the coronavirus. Kremlin-backed S. Ossetian authorities started administering the jabs today, while the process has not yet started in Abkhazia.

13:00 – Vaccination Priority Groups to Be Expanded

Based on the Georgian government’s latest decision, persons working in the tourism and hospitality sector, as well as public transport drivers and employees will be added as priority groups in the vaccination process against COVID-19.

Georgian authorities have confirmed 788 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the total confirmed cases to 313,742. In the meantime, 1,206 patients have recovered, taking the number of overall recoveries to 295,458. The number of COVID-related fatalities rose by 20 to 4,183. To date, the number of active cases stands at 14,075. 

According to the authorities, the test positivity rate for today stands at 8.05%, the 14-day rate is at 5.02% while the rate for the past week stands at 5.74%.

Georgian authorities have confirmed 509 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the total confirmed cases to 312,954. In the meantime, 1,200 patients have recovered, taking the number of overall recoveries to 294,252. The number of COVID-related fatalities rose by 12 to 4,163. To date, the number of active cases stands at 14,513. 

According to the authorities, the test positivity rate for May 3 testings stands at 6.81%, the 14-day rate is at 5.0% while the rate for the past week stands at 5.6%.

According to the authorities, out of 988 new cases of the virus, 511 were recorded in Tbilisi, and 114 in Adjara. Further, in Samegrelo Zemo Svaneti – 94, Imereti – 84, Kakheti – 45, Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 45, Shida Kartli – 33, Kvemo Kartli – 33, Guria – 19, Samtskhe-Javakheti – 6. Four new cases were revealed in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region.

Georgian authorities have confirmed 988 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the total confirmed cases to 312,445. In the meantime, 1,595 patients have recovered, taking the number of overall recoveries to 293,052. The number of COVID-related fatalities rose by 21 to 4,151. To date, the number of active cases stands at 15,216. 

According to the authorities, the test positivity rate for May 1 testings stands at 7.18%, the 14-day rate is at 4.99% while the rate for the past week stands at 5.47%.

According to the authorities, out of 1 147 new cases of the virus, 653 were recorded in Tbilisi, and 144 in Adjara. Further, in Samegrelo Zemo Svaneti – 102, Imereti – 83, Kvemo Kartli – 41, Shida Kartli – 36, Kakheti – 35, Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 25, Guria – 22, Samtskhe-Javakheti – 6. No new cases were revealed in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region. 

11:00 GMT+4 – 1,147 New Cases, 690 More Recoveries, 20 More Fatalities

Georgian authorities confirmed 1,147 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the total confirmed cases to 311,457. The number of recoveries rose by 690 to 291,457. The authorities reported 20 new fatalities, bringing the number of COVID-related deaths in the country (excluding occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions) to 4,130. The number of active cases to date stands at 15,844.
