12:05 – 19 New Cases in Tskhinvali Region, 20 More Recoveries

Kremlin-backed South Ossetian authorities have reported 19 new cases, bringing the tally of the occupied region’s total confirmed cases to 2,409. 20 more patients have recovered, taking the region’s overall number of recoveries to 1,647. Georgian Interior Ministry has revealed 368 cases of disobeying regulations imposed against the spread of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. In particular, police have fined 87 citizens for defying isolation and/or quarantine rules, including those who violated the 21:00 – 05:00 curfew. 281 citizens were also fined for breaching face mask regulations.

Alexander Ankvab, prime minister of occupied Abkhazia, has tested positive for COVID-19 and has moved to self-isolation. Apsnypress news agency reported that Ankvab does not require hospitalization as his symptoms are mild.

11:10 GMT+4 – 525 People Fined for Defying COVID-19 Regulations

Georgian Interior Ministry has revealed 525 cases of disobeying regulations imposed against the spread of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. In particular, police have fined 95 citizens for defying isolation and/or quarantine rules, including those who violated the 21:00 – 05:00 curfew. 430 citizens were also fined for breaching face mask regulations.

Head of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze has tested positive for COVID-19. According to the NCDC, Gamkrelidze has no clinical symptoms, has moved to self-isolation and will continue “self-monitoring and, if necessary, treatment” at home.

13:00 GMT+4 – Legal Stay Period for Foreign Nationals, Stateless Persons Extended

Amendments were made to the Government of Georgia Decree N164 due to coronavirus-related restrictions, extending the legal stay period for foreign nationals or stateless persons from December 31, 2020 to July 1, 2021.

The amendments affect non-Georgian citizens who could not leave the country because the state of nationality of the person was in a high-risk zone, due to border crossing-restrictions, or due to cancelled flights. Persons who were placed in hospital, quarantine or self-isolation, and were forced to remain in Georgia will also receive the stay period extension.

In addition, remaining on the territory of Georgia between January 1 and July 1 will be considered legal for the purpose of obtaining a residence permit in Georgia, given that relevant criteria are met.

17:00 GMT+4 – ADB Approves USD 2.5 Mln Grant for Georgia

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a grant of USD 2.5 Million to Georgia to support the country’s ongoing efforts in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to ADB, the COVID-19 Emergency Response Project grant, financed from ADB’s Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF) with a contribution by the Government of Japan, will be used for “increasing laboratory and diagnostic testing capacity and providing personal protective equipment and general medical equipment required for Georgia’s COVID-19 response.”

According to Moscow-backed authorities in Georgia’s Abkhazia region, the United Nations Development Program has delivered two batches of COVID-19 humanitarian cargo to the Sokhumi, worth a total of USD 62,000.

The first November 17 shipment included 500 liters of disinfectant “to ensure the safety of students and teachers during classes.” The second batch, delivered on December 2 to eight educational institutions in Abkhazia, included 4,000 biosecurity suits, 3,000 disposable medical gowns, 3,000 shoe covers, 4,500 medical caps, 10,650 masks, 700 plastic face shields, 42,000 gloves, 100 infrared thermometers, 200 mercury thermometers, 30 touch dispensers for hand sanitizer, and 500 liters of hand sanitizer.

The Interagency Coordination Council announced changes to isolation/quarantine rules for Georgian citizens entering the country, according to which citizens who arrive in Georgia without a negative PCR test result will no longer have to undergo mandatory quarantine at a hotel, and must, instead, self-isolate for 12 days. Citizens able to provide a negative PCR test result performed in the last 72 hours will only have to self-isolate for 8 days.
