14:00 GMT+4 – Georgian Railway to Reopen

After a 3 month ban due to coronavirus-related restrictions, Georgian Railway is set to reopen starting tomorrow. Trains will be available from the capital Tbilisi to the cities of Batumi, Zugdidi, Poti, Ozurgeti, Kutaisi, and back. Passangers will be mandated to wear face masks while on the train.

Noteworthy, that intercity transport in Georgia also resumed earlier on February 25.

Head of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze said that 3 cases of the UK COVID Variant have been confirmed in Georgia. He added that there are 31 other people who “most likely” have also contracted the variant.

05:00 GMT+4 – Schools, Open-air Food Facilities Reopen Nationwide

As per the Georgian Government’s February 4 announcement, schools have reopened in the capital city of Tbilisi, the western city of Kutaisi, and the southern city of Rustavi – the only remaining locations in Georgia where they were closed before today. While distance learning will remain an option, all those attending school between 5th and 12th grade will be mandated to wear a face mask.

In addition, open-air food facilities, which have been operating exclusively in the coastal Adjara region since February 1, have now reopened nationwide, albeit are only allowed to operate during weekdays.

12:40 GMT+4 – COVID Regulations Extended in Abkhazia

Moscow-backed authorities in Abkhazia have once again extended existing COVID-19 restrictive measures until March 10, last set to expire on February 10.

The bans on mass gatherings in restaurants, banquet halls and other enterprises of public catering, as well as on holding mass business, sports, entertainment and other events in closed spaces have been prolonged. The functioning of indoors sports facilities, spa salons, massage parlors, saunas, children’s centers, among others, will continue to be prohibited. Wearing facemasks when using public transportation will also remain mandatory.

Preschool and elementary school education facilities of the occupied region will return to physical attendance starting February 15, while school for students from grade 5 to 11 will resume from February 22. The outdoor areas of food facilities will also reopen come February 15.

In addition, the culture ministry of occupied Abkhazia has been instructed to detail working hours and other conditions for cultural institutions to resume work starting February 15.

17:25 GMT+4 – Russian Mobile Hospital Extends Stay in Abkhazia

The mobile hospital of the Russian Defense Ministry, which arrived in the occupied Abkhazia region on October 19, will remain in Sukhumi for an extended period of time. The mobile medical unit was expected to leave the occupied region on February 15.

Education Minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli announced today that wearing face masks at school will be mandatory for students from 5th to 12th grade.

Physical attendance at school resumed on February 1 in the port cities of Batumi and Poti, as well as in Zugdidi, Gori and Telavi. As for the capital city of Tbilisi, the western city of Kutaisi, and the southern city of Rustavi, students are expected to return to school starting February 15.

Kremlin-backed South Ossetian authorities have reported 21 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the occupied region’s total confirmed cases to 2,890. The total number of recoveries in the region stands at 2,090.

11:20 GMT+4 – 779 People Fined for Defying COVID-19 Regulations

Georgian Interior Ministry has revealed 779 cases of disobeying regulations imposed against the spread of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. In particular, police have fined 94 citizens for defying isolation and/or quarantine rules, including those who violated the 21:00 – 05:00 curfew. 685 citizens were also fined for breaching face mask regulations.

11:15 GMT+4 – Breakdown of New Cases

According to the Georgian authorities, out of 240 new cases, 86 were confirmed in Tbilisi, the capital city, 15 in Adjara, 21 – Shida Kartli,  37 –  Imereti, 17 – Kakheti, 28 – Samegrelo – Zemo Svaneti, 19 – Kvemo Kartli, 6 – Mtskheta Mtianeti, 8 – Samtskhe-Javakheti, 3 – Guria.

11:00 GMT+4 – 240 New Cases, 681 More Recoveries, 16 Fatalities

Georgia has confirmed 240 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally of the total confirmed cases to 258,351. In the meantime, 681 more patients have recovered, taking the number of recoveries to 249,709. The number of COVID-19 related fatalities rose by 16 to 3,194. The number of active cases stands at 5,422.

05:00 GMT+4 – Certain COVID-19 Measures Lifted

As per the Georgian Government’s January 22 announcement, municipal transport, schools, shops and shopping malls have reopened in the cities of Batumi, Zugdidi, Gori, Poti and Telavi, albeit during weekdays only. Shops and shopping malls have resumed work in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Rustavi on weekdays.

Outdoor areas of restaurants and other food facilities have reopened exclusively in the coastal Adjara region, also only allowed to receive clients on workdays. In addition, the ban on regular flights has been lifted.
