GD Defence Minister Participates in UN Peacekeeping Ministerial

On May 13, Georgian Dream Vice Prime Minister and Defense Minister Irakli Chikovani participated in the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial in Berlin. He was invited by his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius.

Chikovani delivered a speech at the panel “Peacekeeping Reform: More Effective and Safer Peacekeeping.” According to the official press release from Georgia’s Defense Ministry, Chikovani “highlighted the importance of UN peacekeeping missions, new initiatives, challenges, and the ways of their solution.”

“As he outlined, Georgia, as a responsible global actor, has actively contributed to peacekeeping efforts over the years not only through UN missions, but also missions led by NATO and the European Union,” the official press release reads.

The biennial UN Peacekeeping Ministerial brings together defense and foreign ministers from 112 countries, as well as senior political officials from the UN, EU, NATO, OSCE, and the Red Cross, to discuss the future of peacekeeping and for member states to express and demonstrate their political support.
