Secretary General of Turkey’s National Security Council Visits Georgia

Governor Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu, Secretary General of the National Security Council of the Republic of Turkey is on a working visit to Georgia on June 21-22. He met with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili, Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze and Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri. The Governor also attended the Cyber Security Forum organized by the National Security Council of Georgia.

Meeting with the Prime Minister

On June 22, Governor Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu met with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to discuss the ongoing strategic partnership between their respective countries and the potential for future cooperation. Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the existing partnership and their shared ommitment to strengthen and consolidate it.

According to the government’s press office, the meeting highlighted Georgia’s gratitude for Turkey’s unwavering support for its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Euro-Atlantic integration. The two sides emphasized the importance of strengthening the existing bilateral strategic partnership and acknowledged the need for deeper cooperation in the political, economic and security fields.

Significant attention was also paid to security cooperation between Georgia and Turkey. Both sides stressed the importance of intensifying their joint efforts in this field to ensure the stability and sustainable development of the region.

Meeting with the Foreign Minister

Governor Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu, Secretary General of the National Security Council met with Georgia’s Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili to underscore the ongoing strategic cooperation between the two nations. The meeting highlighted the successful advancement of this partnership in both bilateral and multilateral contexts.

According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the Secretary General of the Turkish Security Council reiterated his country’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic integration. The discussion focused on the security situation in the region, addressing existing challenges and emphasizing peaceful ways to resolve them.

In particular, both sides emphasized the importance of cooperation between Georgia and Turkey in promoting sustainable and stable regional development. The two sides also expressed their mutual desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, security and people-to-people ties.

Meeting with the Defense Minister

On June 21, Georgia’s Minister of Defense, Juansher Burchuladze, hosted Governor Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu at the Ministry of Defense of Georgia. The Minister expressed his gratitude for Turkey’s support and practical assistance to Georgia in political and EU integration issues.

The meeting focused on the fruitful defense cooperation between the two nations and the support of the Republic of Turkey in the transformation process of the Georgian Armed Forces. The discussion highlighted the important role of the NATO-Georgia Substantial Package (SNGP) and Turkey’s contributions to the successful implementation of the package’s initiatives.

During the meeting, the attendees conducted a comprehensive review of regional security concerns and prevailing challenges. Particular attention was given to the security of the Black Sea, underscoring the significance of the strategic partnership between the Republic of Turkey and Georgia in this regard.

The Minister of Defense further highlighted the value of the Georgia-Turkey-Azerbaijan tripartite cooperation framework, which includes the Secretary General of the National Security Council of the Republic of Turkey. The Minister discussed the essential tripartite exercises aimed at enhancing interoperability among the countries.

Meeting with the Interior Minister

The Governor Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu met with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri. The meeting focused on the importance of the established partnership between the two countries. Minister Gomelauri put special emphasis on the strong and extensive cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Georgia and Turkey. He also highlighted the pivotal role played by the Turkish Interior Ministry in enhancing the capacity of the Georgian Interior Ministry.

The meeting also covered ongoing cooperation on border security and efforts to combat crime. The participants explored possible ways of future cooperation in these areas. At the end of the meeting, Vakhtang Gomelauri thanked his counterpart for the visit to Georgia and expressed optimism for further active cooperation between the two sides in the future.
