CEC Announces Preliminary Results of Polls
Central Election Commission Chairman Zurab Tchiaberashvili announced on March 29 very preliminary results of the March 28 polls, in which Saakashvili’s party National Movement-Democrats lead with 76%.
Zurab Tchiaberashvili said that 123,980 ballots have been counted so far out of 1,5 million.
The Rightist Opposition – Industrialists-New Rights could qualified threshold and received 7,5%, according to the preliminary results.
Labor Party comes on the third place with 5,43%; Unity – 3,88%; NDP-Traditionalists – 2,48%; Freedom (Tavisupleba) Movement – 1,66%; Revival Union – 0,63%.
“These are very preliminary results, which might change. We know that one party might have high support in one particular region and the results might change when we receive data from this particular region,” Tchiaberashvili said.
The preliminary results do not include votes from Adjarian Autonomy. It is expected that the support of Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze Revival Union would increase after the results from Adjara will be submitted to the Central Election Commission.
