NATO-Georgia Commission Meeting in Brussels

“Georgia is moving forward and is using all practical tools on its integration path in order to achieve its final goal of NATO membership,” Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze told the press on January 31, following the meeting of the NATO-Georgia Commission – a regular forum for political consultations and practical cooperation between the Alliance and Georgia.

The Commission, held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, examined the implementation of the Annual National Program 2017, and the security situation facing the country, including the challenges in and around the Black Sea.

“Georgia has achieved important progress in all aspects of the Annual National Program, in terms of democratic development, economic and defense reforms,” FM Janelidze noted in his press remarks, adding that 2017 “was assessed as very successful by all NATO member states.”

Janelidze touched upon the 2018 NATO Summit as well, saying the country expected “to be present at relevant formats of the Summit,” and expressed hope that its progress would be “duly reflected” at the Summit.

As part of his visit to NATO Headquarters, Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze held a bilateral meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller.
