U.S. Official Visits Georgia

Tina Kaidanow, the U.S. deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian affairs, met with senior officials and some opposition representatives in Tbilisi on May 13.

She said upcoming elections and “furthering of democracy” were among the issues discussed during the meetings.

“I am confident that things are moving in good direction; there’re still lots to do and we will try to help with everything we can,” she said after meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister, Grigol Vashadze.

“There should be free and fair elections, there should be good degree of transparency; we should see elections that have good participation both by the opposition and other parties and I think that’s going to happen, I hope,” she added.
