Governor Sacked after Memorial Demolition Kills Two

President Saakashvili dismissed governor of Imereti region, Mikheil Chogovadze, after a demolition of a World War II memorial in Kutaisi through explosion killed a mother and her 11-year-old daughter on December 19.

Manana Manjgaladze, a spokesperson for the President, said that the dismissal of Chogovadze, who held the post since April, 2008, was related to this “tragic incident”; but she did not give further details.
