Russia Stands Firm on Ban of Georgian Wine Imports
Chief Russian Sanitary Inspector Genady Onishchenko said the reason behind the “total ban” on the import of Georgian and Moldovan wine is the fact that their quality does not correspond to those indicated by their producers, RIA Novosti news agency reported on April 10.
“Those liquids containing spirits, which are bottled as wines do not correspond the stated quality,” the Russian chief sanitary inspector said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He said that this constitutes the “cheating of consumers” in Russia, and added that Georgia and Moldova are “the most adverse segments” in this regard.
He also said that this ban also should serve as “a serious signal” for Russian wine makers as well.
