Kokoity Vows not to Seek Third Term
South Ossetian leader, Eduard Kokoity, said he would not run for the third term later this year even if the breakaway region’s supreme court rules in favor of holding a referendum allowing third presidential term.
The court in breakaway region will decide whether to give a go-ahead to a referendum on June 14.
An initiative group, led by deputy defense minister of the breakaway region, Ibragim Gaseev, has launched a campaign to hold a referendum to ask voters whether to allow or not a person to be the president for three consecutive terms.
Another referendum question, if held, will be whether or not to make Ossetian and Russian both the official language in the region.
