Russian MFA Upbeat over JCC Talks

In a statement issued on August 14 the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the forthcoming session of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) will give a new impetus to the process of the Georgian-South Ossetian settlement.

?The Russian side expects that the Moscow session of the Joint Control Commission will secure the progress that was achieved in the Georgian-South Ossetian settlement in the light of recent decisions of the Commission,? the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

A session of the Joint Control Commission will be held in Moscow on August 17-18.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the sides will focus on the following issues: the launch of the activities of a joint working group set up to develop a joint program on South Ossetian conflict resolution; the interaction between South Ossetian and Georgian law enforcers in the conflict zone; the current situation in the conflict zone and priority measures on its demilitarization; and the economic rehabilitation of the conflict zone.
