Tbilisi Condemns Deployment of Additional Abkhaz Troops in Gali

In a statement issued on August 10 the Georgian Foreign Ministry said that the Abkhaz side has deployed additional armed troops in the villages of the lower Gali district, and that they are forcing local Georgians to dig trenches for the separatist’s armed formations.

?The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia condemns the separatist regime?s unlawful practices and the inaction of the CIS peacekeepers, and believes that, in contrast to our dedicated efforts to establish stability and achieve a peaceful resolution of the conflict, the acts of the Abkhazian side lay bare the genuine character of their destructive and aggressive goals and aspirations,? the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze also condemned the news on August 10 and accused Russian peacekeepers of inaction.

“The Georgian side calls on the CIS peacekeeping forces and their command to employ all means at their disposal to put an immediate end to the use of forced labor on the territory of breakaway Abkhazia”, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.
