Tbilisi Offers Joint Police with Abkhazia
The Georgian side has offered the authorities in breakaway Abkhazia to form a joint police force to provide security in the conflict zone.
The proposal involves deploying of the joint police force in the security zone, involving 12 kilometers on the Georgian side of the administrative border and 12 kilometers on the Abkhaz side (including the ethnic Georgian populated Gali district).
Terms and modalities of the proposal should be discussed with the Abkhaz side, Temur Iakobashvili, the Georgian state minister for reintegration issues, said on April 12.
The proposal is part of a wider set of proposals unveiled by President Saakashvili in late March.
