Georgian Peacekeepers Maneuver in S.Ossetia Conflict Zone

Two companies of the Georgian peacekeeping battalion in the South Ossetian conflict zone will hold exercises in the Georgian-administered Zemo Nikozi village on August 2.

The exercises will involve the evacuation of civilians ahead of an imaginary enemy assault, according to the Georgian Ministry of Defense.

Unlike the Russian peacekeeping battalion, which periodically holds exercises in the conflict zone, the Georgian peacekeeping battalion rarely holds drills.

The Joint Peacekeeping Forces consists of Georgian, Russian and Ossetian battalions, each of whom is authorized to deploy a maximum of 500 servicemen in the conflict zone.
