Abkhazia Offers Peace Plan
Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh submitted a peace plan aimed at resolution of the Abkhaz conflict to the breakaway region’s Parliament for consideration, Apsnipress news agency reported on May 4.
The plan, named “Key to the Future,” is based on principles of restoration of confidence between the Georgian and Abkhaz sides through the abandonment of a policy of military rhetoric and diversification of peace plans which should later be put into practice, according to the Apsnipress.
According to this report the ultimate goal of the plan is to establish good neighbor relations between “hostile countries.”
“The principles of economic integration in the Black Sea region, as well as prospects for more intensive economic and regional cooperation in frames of the ‘Strategy of a Broader EU Neighborhood’ can serve as a commitment for the sides towards the principles of good neighbor relations,” the Abkhaz peace plan says, according to the Apsnipress.
No other details of this document were reported.
The Georgian side also plans to propose a peace plan over Abkhazia in the nearest future, Georgian officials say.
