Kokoity Comments on Okruashvili’s S.Ossetia Deadline

South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity said the type of statements made by Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili about the deadlines for the reintegration of South Ossetia do not foster peace and confidence between the conflicting sides.

Okruashvili expressed confidence that Georgia will be able to restore control over the breakaway region by the end of this year. He said on May 1 he will resign if Georgia fails to reincorporate South Ossetia by January 1, 2007.

“These boastful statements by Irakli Okruashvili do not promote peace and mutual confidence. If he wants to resign, he can do it now. He has no need to seek reasons. Okruashvili’s moves confirm that the Georgian authorities cannot settle their social-economic problems and continue seeking someone to blame for this,” the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee quoted Eduard Kokoity as saying on May 4.
