PM: USD 16 mln Planned to Subsidize Electricity Tax
Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said on April 26 that the governmental plans to allocate USD 16 million to subsidize increased price of electricity for socially vulnerable citizens.
Neither the date of the planned increase nor the new rate for electricity tariff is known yet.
“Unfortunately, the increase of electricity tariffs is unavoidable and the President has instructed us to develop such a mechanism, which will enable those who consume small amount of electricity to pay less money. Most important is to remain it [electricity tariff] unchanged for the most poor citizens [at the expense of subsidizing],” the Prime Minister said at the government’s session on April 26.
