Russian MPs Back Ban on Georgian, Moldovan Wine Import

In a resolution passed by the Russian State Duma on April 19 Russian lawmakers from the lower house of the Parliament supported the Russian chief sanitary inspector’s decision to ban the import of Georgian and Moldovan wines, brandy and sparkling wine.


The resolution says that the Russian lawmakers consider this measure a step to secure the safety of the health of Russian consumers, which fully corresponds to rules and norms of international trade.


The Russian parliamentarians also expressed hope that the Georgian and Moldovan authorities and winemakers will promptly undertake measure to eradicate falsified and low quality products.
