Russia Hails UN Resolution on Abkhazia

In an information note issued on April 3 the Russian Foreign Ministry welcomed the UN Security Council’s March 31 resolution on Abkhazia and noted that “as a facilitator, Russia will continue its efforts towards a comprehensive settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry also said that against the background of this Security Council resolution, which notes that the Russian peacekeeping forces “play an important stabilizing role in the conflict zone,” the Georgian side’s criticism towards the peacekeeping forces is “dissonant.”
