Ruling Party Candidates Lead in MP By-Elections

Ruling National Movement party?s MP nominations are leading in Saturday?s MP by-elections in all the five single-mandate constituencies, according to the early results announced by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on October 2.

With the most of the votes already counted, Bidzina Bregadze of the National Movement leads in Tbilisi?s Isani constituency with 8,753 votes, followed by Giorgi Mosidze of the New Rights opposition party with 5,841. Three other candidates in the Isani constituency received 1,207 votes altogether.

Pavle Kublashvili of the National Movement could garner 9,306 votes in the Tkibuli constituency, while Nino Kvariani of the New Rights party ? 1,854 votes.

Jemal Inaishvili of the National Movement also leads in the Adjara Autonomous Republic?s Batumi constituency with 8,249 votes, followed by Jumber Tavartkiladze of the opposition Conservative Party with 1,753 votes. Four other candidates could only garner 753 votes.

Koba Khabazi of the National Movement received 13,920 in Adjara?s Kobuleti constituency. The Conservative Party nomination Jimsher Jincharadze ? 6,160 votes. The third candidate in the Kobuleti constituency, non-partisan Avtandil Mikeladze, received 336 votes.

Elguja Makaradze of the National Movement garnered 5,484 votes in the Adjara?s Shuakhevi constituency. Eduard Nizharadze of the New Rights party – 2,116 votes. The third candidate, non-partisan Vladimer Mumladze ? 222 votes.

?There have been several appeals filed to the CEC and most of them concern problems with the voter lists. We will discuss all of these appeals, but I can say that they can not change the results of the elections,? Chairman of the CEC Gia Kavtaradze said at a news conference on October 2.
