U.S.-Funded Training Program Launched for Georgian Troops
The new U.S.-funded Sustainment and Stability Operations Program (SSOP) was officially launched at the Krtsanisi training center on April 23. During the initial stages the Kutaisi 23rd Battalion will undergo training under the new program. The U.S. government has allocated USD 60.5 million for the new program.
The SSOP agreement, which is the second large-scale, U.S.-funded military assistance program for Georgia, will provide U.S. training to Georgian troops, designed to enhance the capabilities of Georgia’s military forces and allowing for their continued support for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
