Shevardnadze Concerned with Human Rights Abuse

(Tbilisi, April 1, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze in his traditional Monday radiobroadcast on April 1 expressed concern with the significant violation of human rights in Georgia.

Eduard Shevardnadze commented on the US Department of State’s report on human rights for 2001 in Georgia released on March 4.

“I agree with the most part of the report, including that on religious abuses,” Shevardnadze stated.

Georgian President said that “situation is alarming”, concerning the violation of human rights in Georgia.

Eduard Shevardnadze stated that he intends to hold a special government’s meeting to discuss how to improve situation in this respect in Georgia.
