Georgia Demands Monitoring of Gudauta Base Withdrawal
There will always be confusion regarding the process of withdrawal of military equipment from Gudauta military base, Abkhazia, while it is not internationally observed, President Shevardnadze announced at the briefing on October 29.
Russian authorities claim that Russia pulled out basic military equipment from Gudauta on October 26. Foreign Affairs Ministry of Georgia stated that Russia withdrew only unnecessary scrap metal from Gudauta base and Russian soldiers as well as the military equipment still remain at the base.
Russia rejects Georgia’s proposal regarding the international monitoring of Gudauta base liquidation.
