Moldovan President: Secessionists Supported ‘from Outside’

In his address to the security forum of the GUAM member states (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) in Chisinau on November 3, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin said that secessionists regions on the post-Soviet space are supported ?from outside.?

?The separatist regimes in the post-Soviet space exist at the expense of assistance from several our regional partners, which actually support illegal activities there. Without this outside assistance, these regimes would simply fall,? news agency RIA Novosti quoted Voronin as saying.

The Moldovan President stressed that that banks operating in the breakaway regions are illegal and ?represent an ideal mechanism for money-laundering.?

Voronin also said that European integration should be a priority of foreign policy for the GUAM member states. ?Two of them [Moldova and Ukraine] have already signed individual action plans with the European Union,? Voronin said and added that he hopes such plans will soon be signed with other members of GUAM as well.
