Georgia to Amend Security Concept, Military Doctrine

Georgia plans to make amendments to its national security concept and military doctrine after analyzing the August hostilities, Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Batu Kutelia said on September 24.

“Military aggression by Russia had not been discussed as a threat of high probability,” Kutelia said at a press conference. “The recent developments have confirmed that this threat has come true. Hence, the national security concept and defense planning in this respect should be changed.”

“Not only will we make such amendments, but the same will be done by our partner countries, including the majority of NATO member states, especially the Baltic countries,” he added.

Kutelia, however, did not specify when the changes would take place.
