Italian FM Visits Georgia
Franco Frattini, the Italian foreign minister, called on Russia to fully comply with its commitments undertaken under the six-point ceasefire accord with Georgia.
He was speaking at a joint news conference with his Georgian counterpart, Eka Tkeshelashvili, after talks in Tbilisi on September 3.
Frattini called on Russia to remove checkpoints it had established in parts of Georgia where he said the six-point agreement allows only patrols.
Also on September 3, the European Parliament passed a resolution calling on Russia to withdraw its troops from Georgia and strongly condemning the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by Russia.
