NATO Calls for Ceasefire, Direct Talks

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer expressed serious concern about developments in breakaway South Ossetia and said the alliance was closely following the situation.

“The Secretary General calls on all sides for an immediate end of the armed clashes and direct talks between the parties,” a statement issued by the alliance on August 8 reads.
