Reports: N.Ossetia Pledges Help to Tskhinvali ‘to Repel Aggression’
Russia’s North Ossetian leader Teimuraz Mamsurov has pledged to provide assistance to South Ossetia “in repelling aggression,” the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on August 2.
Mamsurov spoke on the phone with South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity after intense clashes in the conflict zone killed six people and injured 15 in Tskhinvali and nearby South Ossetian villages, according to the South Ossetian side. Six Georgian civilians and one policeman were injured, according to the Georgian side.
“North Ossetia is watching closely developments in South Ossetia and we are ready to render assistance to our southern brothers,” Mamsurov was quoted as saying by the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee. “We are concerned by the actions undertaken by the Georgian leadership, which has waged a real war against Ossetia. We are determined to jointly repel this aggression.”
Meanwhile, the South Ossetian side has also reported that the authorities in Tskhinvali are set to evacuate children and women from the capital and the nearby village of Dmenisi.
