EU Concerned over S.Ossetia Tensions

The EU French presidency expressed concern over the recent flare-up of tension in the South Ossetian conflict zone and said it was “carefully monitoring” developments in the region.

“The Presidency calls on the Parties to show restraint and to resume dialogue as soon as possible in order to restore confidence,” it said in a statement on July 4.

Two men were killed in Tskhinvali and a secessionist-controlled village in the conflict zone and at least eight were injured as a result of an overnight shootout and shelling between South Ossetian and Georgian forces on July 3-4.
