Duma Speaker: Sanctions Imposed on Saakashvili not on People

Boris Grizlov, the Chairman of Russia?s lower house of Parliament, Duma Council, said on October 3 that although Georgia released four Russian officers, the Russian Duma will still discuss possible sanctions against Georgia.

?Unfortunately, the situation is aggravating with Saakashvili?s regime and the State Duma considers necessary to react to it,? Grizlov told reporters.

He said that he respects the Georgian people, ?but the Georgian people should themselves elect a person who will lead them. The sanctions imposed by the [Russian] executive authorities are directed against Saakashvili?s regime, and not against the Georgian people.?
