PACE Monitors to Visit Georgia
Matyas Eorsi and Kastriot Islami, co-rapporteurs for the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will pay a fact-finding visit to Georgia on March 26-27.
The monitors will meet with President Saakashvili, Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, Chairman of the Supreme Court Kote Kublashvili and other officials, as well as with opposition, media and NGO figures.
“The discussions are expected to focus on the next general elections, reforms to the judicial and criminal justice system, improvement of democratic standards after the recent political crisis, independence of the media, relations between Georgia and Russia, and recent developments in relation to Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” the Council of Europe’s press office reported.
