Ex-Ruling Party MP Sets Up New Party
The Party of Georgian Women – recently established by independent lawmaker Guguli Magradze – held its inaugural session on March 12.
Magradze told reporters afterwards that her party would probably participate in the parliamentary elections, but the final decision would depend on “how fair the election legislation will be.” She also indicated a willingness to cooperate with other opposition parties.
Magradze entered Parliament in 2004 on a ruling National Movement party ticket. However, she quit the party shortly before the November events after having publicly criticized the authorities for what she described as intransigence towards the opposition.
