Tskhinvali Braces for ‘Terrorist Acts’
South Ossetian secessionist authorities warned local residents on March 6 to expect what they called Tbilisi-masterminded terrorist acts.
In a joint statement, the secessionist ministries of interior and security said terrorist acts similar to the one that occurred in Tskhinvali last December were expected. South Ossetian militiaman Mairbek Khuriev died and two others were badly injured by a car bomb on December 16.
The ministries warned against buying cars from Georgians, saying they could be planted with explosives. The Mitsubishi Pajero, in particular, they said, should be avoided.
The ministries said the warning was also partly prompted by a recent explosion in the breakaway region, which killed two militiamen and injured about a dozen other people on February 28.
