CEC Allows Polling Stations in Iraq, Kosovo

The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided on December 17 to open polling stations in Iraq and Kosovo so as to allow about 2,100 Georgian soldiers serving there to vote in the January 5 early presidential polls.

Earlier on the same day a court ordered the CEC to overturn its initial decision not to open polling stations for the soldiers. Opposition-nominated CEC members had voted down a proposal to allow the soldiers vote. The rejection incensed many, with the ruling party referring the matter to the court.
