Abkhazia Readies Reinforcements, Armor after Shootout – Official
The Abkhaz military has been ordered to send reinforcements, and, if necessary, heavy armor, to Tkvarcheli district, Kristian Bzhania, a spokesperson for Abkhaz secessionist president Sergey Bagapsh, said following an emergency meeting of the Abkhaz Security Council, RIA Novosti reports.
The move comes following a shootout this evening, in which both sides agree, two Abkhaz troopers were killed and six captured.
Georgian authorities claim an Abkhaz special ops platoon was repelled by Georgian police, when attempting to sabotage a road currently under construction between strategically-important, Tbilisi-controlled Kodori Gorge in Abkhazia and the rest of Georgia.
Abkhaz secessionist authorities, however, dispute the claim, saying Georgian forces actually attacked a border guard training camp in an adjacent district, at least 10km from the road.
