Constitutional Court Moves to Batumi
President Saakashvili said on Sunday he will submit a proposal to the Parliament on June 26 envisaging relocation of the Tbilisi-based Georgian Constitutional Court to Batumi, Adjara Autonomous Republic.
He said that the move, which is on the one hand a part of the decentralization process, will also further highlight Adjara Autonomous Republic?s ?legal links? with the Georgian state.
?It also means that Georgia is not only [the capital city] Tbilisi,? Saakashvili added, while speaking at a meeting with the regional governors which was held in Batumi on June 25.
He said that with development of infrastructure ? involving construction of new airport in Batumi which will be followed with daily flights between Tbilisi and Batumi – Adjara will become easily accessible.
Initially, the Georgian government planned to relocate the Constitutional Court in Kutaisi, the second largest city in Georgia.
