Moscow Hails JCC Session on South Ossetia

The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomed results of a session of the quadripartite Joint Control Commission, which was held in breakaway South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali on June 22, with the participation of Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili and his S.Ossetian “counterpart” Mikhail Mindzaev, as well as officials from the Russian and Russia”s North Ossetian Republic”s Interior Ministries.


The sides agreed to enhance cooperation between the Georgian and Ossetian law enforcement agencies and to hold meetings of the Interior Ministers regularly, once in a month, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on June 24.


Co-chairman of the JCC instructed a joint working group, which was set up to develop a joint plan on conflict resolution, to present its working schedule before July 5.


The sides also agreed to hold next session of the JCC in Tbilisi on July 12-13.


The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the recent session of the JCC was “a step forward” towards a confidence building between the sides.
