Court Slightly Reduces Sentence for Ex-Audit Chief
The Court of Appeals has partially upheld the ruling of the Tbilisi City Court and sentenced Sulkhan Molashvili, ex-Chairman of the Chamber of Control – the state audit agency – to 8-years imprisonment.
Last September, the Tbilisi City Court found Molashvili guilty of misappropriation of GEL 3 million and sentenced him to nine years of imprisonment. But the Court of Appeals ruled that Molashvili was guilty of misappropriating GEL 2 million.
Molashvili, who was arrested in April, 2004, pled not guilty. His defense lawyers announced that they would appeal the European Court of Human Rights.
