U.S. Grants $356,000 to Enhance Georgia’s Energy Security

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) granted USD 356,000 to the Georgian Energy Ministry on March 2 to enhance the country’s energy security and promote economic growth in the country.

According to a press released issued by USTDA on March 2, the grant will fund a feasibility study on developing a second high voltage transmission line between the Zestaponi (western Georgia) and Gardabani (south-eastern Georgia) stations.

The grant was conferred in a signing ceremony held during the opening reception for the Invest in Georgia Forum in New York. USTDA Director for Policy and Program Geoffrey Jackson and Georgian Energy Minister Nika Gilauri signed the grant agreement on behalf of the U.S. and Georgian governments, respectively.  Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli was present at the grant signing.

The USTDA grant will be used to prepare preliminary design and cost estimates, review financing options, and prepare tender documents.  Interested U.S. firms should submit proposals, while the Ministry of Energy will select the U.S. contractor that will provide the technical assistance.
