National Security Council Discusses Bird Flu Threat

President Saakashvili convened a session of the National Security Council on February 24 to discuss the threat of bird flu in Georgia

According to initial tests one wild bird found dead in the Adjara Autonomous Republic at the Turkish border has been confirmed to have the H5N1 strain of bird flu on February 24.

President Saakashvili said before the session that now it is important to prevent the infection of domestic poultry and people.

“The population should be very cautious and observe elementary sanitary norms in order to avoid infection,” Saakashvili said.
