Abkhazia Ratifies Cooperation Treaty with South Ossetia

The Parliament of breakaway Abkhazia ratified an agreement on friendship and cooperation between Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which was signed by Abkhaz and South Ossetian leaders Sergey Bagapsh and Eduard Kokoity, respectively, in Tskhinvali last September, Apsnypress news agency reported on February 15.
 
According to the agreement, the sides are committed to render mutual assistance in cases of emergency situations.
 
“If peace and stability are threatened on the territories of one of the sides, the contracting parties shall immediately start mutual consultations in order to coordinate their efforts to eliminate such threats and take effective measures to secure peace and stability,” the agreement reads.
