State Minister Khaindrava Visits Moscow

State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava left for Moscow on February 16 to negotiate the peace process in breakaway South Ossetia with officials from the Russian Foreign Ministry .

Khaindrava said before his departure that he will also meet with Russian chief negotiator over South Ossetian issues Valery Kenyaikin to discuss issues related with the upcoming meeting of the quadripartite Joint Control Commission scheduled for February 20-21 in Vienna.

This visit by Khaindrava to Moscow follows the Georgian Parliament’s resolution adopted on February 15, which instructs the executive authorities to revise the 1992 Sochi agreement with Russia, which serves as a legal base for the presence of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (JPKF) in the South Ossetian conflict zone.

“We want to implement a peace plan together with Russia – that is our main task. If we see that our positions coincide, it is very good; but if not, not a single step that might even slightly harm our interests will be taken,” Khaindrava told reporters before departure to Moscow.
