Electricity Supply Partially Restored in Tbilisi
Electricity to many Tbilisi districts is being supplied with restrictions, as the system still lacks at least 80 megawatts to provide all consumers in the capital Tbilisi with electricity, the Telasi company, which distributes electricity in Tbilisi, reported on January 27.
Georgia is importing 50 megawatts of electricity from Azerbaijan, while 80 megawatts are being produced by the 4th power generator, which was put into operation on January 26. All the rest of the electricity is being generated by local hydro power plants in eastern Georgia.
Officials say that the top priority is to first provide electricity to those districts which have been left without gas.
Most of eastern Georgia – including the capital Tbilisi – was blacked out on January 26 after the “Imereti” high-voltage power line was damaged, amid a continuing gas crisis in the country. The ?Imereti? power line transports electricity from western Georgia to eastern part of the country.
