Georgia to Replace Ambassadors in USA, Spain
The Georgian Parliament plans to withdraw the country?s Ambassador to the United States, Canada and Mexico Levan Mikeladze and Ambassador to Spain Lasha Otkhmezuri.
At a session of the parliamentary bureau on October 31 Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze praised the activities of Levan Mikeladze, who has been the Ambassador in Washington since 2002; but criticized Lasha Otkhmezuri?s performance as Georgia?s Ambassador to Spain.
Otkhmezuri, who was appointed as Ambassador after being reccommended by ex-Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili, was one of the reasons behind accusations of favoritism expressed by parliamentatians against Zourabichvili. Zourabichvili?s husband is the godfather of Otkhmezuri.
Unofficial reports say that the President will nominate Deputy Defense Minister Davit Sikharulidze as Georgia?s Ambassador to the United States. It is not known yet who will replace Otkhmezuri in Spain.
