CoE Calls for Restraint in South Ossetia

Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Terry Davis called on the conflicting sides to show restraint in the South Ossetian conflict zone and ?to lay down the arms and talk.?

In a statement issued on September 23 Terry Davis said that he talked with President Saakashvili over the phone on Friday. ?I am satisfied that his position is firmly in favour of talks,? the CoE Secretary General said.

?I am a strong supporter of the demilitarization of the whole conflict area. I call on all those concerned to lay down the arms and talk. Start pulling out the heavy weapons, then further demilitarize. This will help the talks,? he added.
