Khaindrava denouces South Ossetian-Russian “Information War”

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava convened a news conference on August 6 and condemned, as he put it, “the information war” launched by certain politicians in Russia over South Ossetia as a provocation and denied that Tbilisi is mobilizing troops in the vicinity of the breakaway region.

“This wave of accusations coming not only from the de facto authorities of South Ossetia, but also from certain Russian politicians, has turned into an information war and a well-organized campaign,” Giorgi Khaindrava said.

He said that this kind of disinformation might lead to provocations and an increase of tensions in the conflict zone.

“We have even decreased the number of our peacekeepers in the conflict zone in order not to give reason for concern,” he added.

Khaindrava also said that in response to the South Ossetian side’s accusation that Tbilisi plans to launch hostilities on September 15, the Georgian side offers to hold talks between South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity and Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli on September 15.
