Russia to Redeploy Hardware from Georgia to Russia, Armenia

The Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Gen. Yuri Baluevsky, said on May 19 that Russia?s military hardware and equipment currently stationed in the two Russian bases in Georgia will be redeployed in Russia and Armenia, Interfax news agency reported.

He said that this decision to re-deploy part of the military hardware in Armenia will make it possible to finish the process of withdrawal from Georgia in four years. In previous years, Russia claimed that it would need at least nine, or even eleven years, to close down bases in Georgia.
