Police Detained Watchdog NGO Observer

(Tbilisi, June 2, Civil Georgia) – NGO coalition, which observes the locals, reports its member Tengo Shergelashvili of the Young Economists Association of Georgia was illegally detained by the police.

He was on his way to one of the Tbilisi constituencies to monitor the report on violations in that constituency. Police says Shergelashvili was arrested for beating the policeman.

NGO coalition members deny the claims and interpret the incident as a fact of pressure towards the independent observers and NGOs which monitor the elections.
