Pro-Presidential Alliance Warns Over Possible Destabilization

(Tbilisi, June 12 2003, Civil Georgia) – Irina Sarishvili-Chanturia, leader of the National-Democratic Party of Georgia and member of the pro-governmental election alliance, said today that infiltration of Chechen fighters in Georgia is anticipated in order to undermine situation in the country.

“Penetration of Chechen fighters might be followed with the entry of Russian troops in Georgia,” Sarishvili-Chanturia said at the news briefing today. She named July as a possible date of provocation.

Sarishvili-Chanturia also said that the provocation aims at aggravating the internal political situation.

“Some political forces in Georgia might also be involved in this provocation,” she added.

Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council Tedo Japaridze told the reporters today, while commenting Sarishvili-Chanturia’s statement that he has “no information regarding the anticipated destabilization.”

In April Irina Sarishvili Chanturia also made a statement regarding the anticipated disorders and destabilization. On April 21 she said “Russian special services will use the certain political forces in Georgia to undermine situation in the country.”
